McDonald’s worker sprayed with fire extinguisher ‘over price of cheeseburger’

Police have launched an investigation after a McDonald’s worker was blasted in the face with a fire extinguisher during her night shift in an attack that could have blinded her.

Kimberly Friend, 21, was working in the drive-thru restaurant in Melbourne, Australia, last Saturday when a group of four men in a dark-coloured Sedan started arguing with her about the price of a cheeseburger.

Ten minutes later, the car returned and the men began recording the conversation on their phones.

A security camera inside the restaurant captured the moment the group suddenly discharge a fire extinguisher in Kimberly’s face as she leans forward out the window.

She was covered in a cloud of white dust and had to jump backwards from the impact.

Kimberly was left shaken and taken to hospital for assessment.

She told 9News: “It was so fast, I inhaled it and I tasted it straight away. I thought this is poison or something.

“The nurses said it could have caused blindness – very lucky.”

Kimberly’s father, Steve Friend, said the attackers had used a small domestic fire extinguisher containing dry chemicals.

In an interview with local radio station 3AW, he said: “It was absolutely an assault, she could have been blinded.

“The potential for serious injury through letting off a fire extinguisher is incredible.”

Kimberly was told that she could have lost her eyesight

Kimberly had reported the matter to the police and said the men were of Caucasian appearance and in their early 20s.

The driver had a skinny build and brown scuffy hair, it was reported.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “We are thankful this didn’t result in a more serious injury. This sort of behaviour is unacceptable.”

Melbourne police have appealed for witness to the incident.
